Biting Biting is often caused by hand fed treats. If you feed your horse lots of treats, they start to expect them. If you don't have a treat, he may bite you while looking for one. Feed your horse his treats out of a bucket, so he dosen't take them from your hand. If your horse tries to bite you, swat him on the nose and say no in a firm voice. Then go about your business as before. Don't swat your horse a lot, because eventually he will figure out your plan and pull back before you can swat him. Untill you solve the problem keep a muzzle on him while grooming and tacking him.

KICKING If you have a horse that kicks, it's best to let an adult discipline him. If your horse kicks, punish him immedediately. Some people say kick him back but that is very dangerous. Carry a crop with you and if he kicks you smack him on the rump or hindquarters right away. If your horse kicks while you groom him, you may be tickling him. Brush him lightly around sensitive areas. If he kicks another horse, swat him with a crop right away so he knows he did wrong. If you ride a horse that kicks, tie a red ribbon to his tail to warn others.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOUR SADDLE GETS WET? Let your tack dry naturally in the tack room. Don't put it near heat in the sun. Once it dries, apply neastfoot oil or some other leather conditioner to it, and let it soak for a day or two. Once you let it set, take a sponge and rub on some saddle soap. When it dries, buff the tack with a dry cloth.
